I am looking for peer feedback from actual use on Core2 duo E6550 and Intel
DG31PR board which has a spec of max 8GB RAM
I am looking at a new Intel core 2 duo system with the above board,
considering installing 4x1GB RAM. the initial OS is XP Pro 32-bit but will
migrate to Vista late next year.


Any problem there? or should I stick with 2x1GB for now for XP pro?
I heard it is difficult to find a board to support 4x1 GB RAM

We also have licence for XP pro 64-bit both that looks a bit off the beaten
path for business users.and seems to be a dying OS from device and software
support

Also when will hypervisor be RTM?

Yes. All 32-bit versions of Windows (Vista as well as XP), even though
they have a 4GB address space, can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM.
That's because some of that space is used by hardware and not
available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but is
usually around 3.1GB.

Probably. How much RAM you can make *effective* use of depends on what
apps you run. For almost everyone running Windows XP, even 2GB is way
more RAM than you can make effective use of. Unless you run extremely
memory hungry apps, doing things like video editing or editing large
photographic images, you won't see any difference between 1GB and 2GB,
let alone more. Many people won't even see any difference between
512MB and 2GB
 
The DG31PR board has 2 DIMM sockets and supports max 4GB. You might check out
the DQ35JO (DQ35JOE is the exact same board) which has 4 DIMM sockets and Max
8GB.
