Question:

I have a large enterprise network. AT only ONE of my
sites I am having a problem. I have a domain controller
there that for some reason keeps getting the MXSRB error
saying that another pc on the network believes IT is the
master and the one on the server is stopping. This is
causing some issues for me. Ive read several KB articles
on this, but still cannot pinpoint a root cause.

The network with my DC in it is on teh 10.64.0.x network,
and the other PCs are in other /24 vlans between 10.64.1.x
to 10.64.24.x.

An end all fix would be to somehow make the DC the master
browser there and ignore all other requests.

any ideas, talking papers, similar finds?

help greatly appreciated..

My solution to browse issues like this
is to disable the computer browser service
on every workstation.

Browse broadcasts normally do not pass
between subnets, but this depends on how
your vlans are configured through the
layer 3 connection.

You would normally turn up WINS to support
downlevel clients' browsing across subnets. I usually
turn up WINS anyway since it seems to
settle down a lot of browsing traffic and
problems along those lines.

Excerpt from below:

"This service enables the local computer to maintain a
list of available resources on a LAN. If your PC is not on
a network or maintaining a list of network resources this
is not needed you can disable this service. Disabling this
service will reduce network traffic and free up ram and
cpu cycles. "

Myproblem is that I maintain a very large network. So,
the question is if I turn this service off, What happens
exactly? I mean, most stations have network shares they
access. Will they be affected? Im thinking they would.
Or how about the fact that my network uses norton AV
managed by main servers. Wont the updates be affected? I
also use SUS. SO, Im thinking this would be a prob. I
cant be the only one having this issue in a large
environment.

any other comments?
