Hello,
how do I play back mxf files (HDV) shot on the panasonic HVX200. Is there
third party software I need to install? What is it? Please note, I want to
play back the original file without converting it at all. Please help.
Cheers...

Wow! Whatta camera!

I have no experience with .mxf files but
a Google search turns up the following
viewer:

Enables P2 content viewing
https://sec.panasonic.biz/sav/sec-cgi-bin/p2viewer/dlp2v.cgi
(you have to click the "I Accept" button before you can download)

And...page 79 of the manual shows how to
connect the camera to a TV. Then page 75
talks about viewing the files.

Phew!!
I'm not in that leaque. It's not a file that Windows has any clues about?
http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/xml/redir.asp?Ext=mxf

It transpires it is used as a Hi-Def broadcast standard.
http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=mxf

A brief google revealed the BBC are testing this format in
HD broadcast trials.
That specific HDV cam is a pro model - where did you get it
that it didn't come with an editing suite/unit?
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/hvx200microsite/index.asp

http://www.microfilmmaker.com/reviews/Issue2/hvx200.html

Brief googling indicates that there is no actual official editing software -
certainly not for Windows - editing is seemingly via similar hardware?
Though there were references to "open source" software on the BBC trials?
I doubt that open source software used in transmission standards will
be for XP? Good luck.
