Hi,

I've been asked to setup a DNS record for a specific task and I'm not sure
exactly how to set it up. Basically I'm hosting his DNS & webserver server.
What this person wants is the following, in my DNS, he wants a record for
every mail to point to a general mailbox at his ISP. What would be the
correct way to set this up for him? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

This is NOT a DNS function.

MX records do not point to an email address (or mailbox). MX records just
point to the mail servers only. If he wants to do mail forwarding, then in
his or your mail server, for each individual mailbox, tell it to forward to
the general mailbox he wants it to go to.

In addition to Ace's (correct) reply, I noticed a reply to your identical
post in another group....

If you need to post to multiple groups, it's best to do so all at once in a
single message (separate the NG names with commas) so that everyone can
follow the thread. A lot of people subscribe to multiple groups, and this
way you won't be asking anyone to reproduce someone else's work, and
everyone can benefit.

Crossposting = posting once to several newsgroups within a single message.
This is not a Bad Thing (presuming the list of groups posted to is small,
and all the groups are truly relevant to your question)

Multiposting = posting separate, identical posts to several newsgroups. This
is a Bad Thing. :-)

HI Lanwench,

Do you remember what group that was? Curious to see the other replies,
sometimes would like to offer more or comment on them. Too bad Peter Smith
didn't crosspost, it would have been beneficial for him from a possible
collaborate effort among us.

I know people com to the web to read and post. they don't
subscribe the news group, due to blocking or other
reasons, do you have suggestions how they can do the
cross posting?

To cross-post, all you have to do is enter mutliple newsgroup names
separated by commas in the "newsgroups" box in Outlook Express, that is as
long as you know the exact group name. If using the web version, you would
need to know the exact name as well and type them in.

So I'm going to assume that if someone is mutli-posting, then they know the
other newsgroup names and can type them in manually and send it once instead
of mutiple times. All replies, if an alternate follow-up isn't designated,
will go to all the groups that a post was sent to.
