MX record and firewall

I am hoping someone can help me with this. Currently our office gets email
from the ISP via pop3. I would like to change this and create an MX record
that points to our server in the office so that our exchange server grabs the
email via SMTP. My question is in regards to the firewall. It is just a
netgear firewall/router with one WAN port. The WAN port gets a live IP
address from the ISP. Would I point the MX record to this IP address and then
use port forwarding to forward port 25 to the server's nonroutable IP
address? Is this correct? thanks
