I am in the process of hopefully finishing the marathon-
like download of the Ser. Patch 1. In frustration, I
began looking at newsgroups and found MVP, Julie had
replied to a post saying not to install Express. Is this
for that particuliar person? Or have I just wasted hours
of my time/tying up my phone line? Windows Update site
said the update would take 6 min. Now into my 2nd hour of
this mess. Please advise.

How about posting the entire message that you read, so we'll know what
you're talking about?

The network install version is much larger than the
initial download of the express version.
But, the express initial download is just that, only
the initial bootstrap part, and then it will need to
download much more, potentially most of what is
downloaded when getting the network install download.

As Jupiter mentioned, the express is a one shot thing.
You only get to use it during that one updating. Also,
you need to be connected for extended periods in the
middle of the updating, while downloading more.
This leaves room for problems if the process is somehow
interrupted. With the network install download, you do
all the downloading up-front. You then have a single file
that you can use multiple times (if even needed) and when
you do the updating you do not need to be connected, and
are less likely to have the process interrupted.
