Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General, set
the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete the corrupt
*.evt file from
%windir%\system32\config
then set the Event Log Service "Startup Type:"
back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

I tried Dave but,

all three files say, "Sharing violation. Source or destination file may be
in use".
is there another way to delete them?
The stop button was shaded out when I "disabled" Event Log, but it was still
running.
Sorry you're having to hold my hand on this one.

thx,

Dave,

Sorry, but I was called away. I actually booted after the disabling, after
my last post and was allowed to delete those files and changed back to
automatic and rebooted. Viola, you are great. Thanks

Created new Event Viewer files like a charm.

Thanks again Dave.
