(MVP) assist if poss

i have an E Machine 740 with win xp home os instale
i had some gliches creeping into my unit and decided it was best to reload the win o/s with the recovery rom
bla bla bl
anyway all ok till i downloaded critical updates fron updates ect
then i could not shutdown the P C
odd!!?
so i done the whole thing over again thinking it to be program error or something !!!
but it was the same?
i thought it might be mechanical so i opened up the covers and the switch was fine and quite basic
this brings me bach to a system device error
has anyone any ideas as to why restart should remain on?? or something else i aint thought of yet iqd u/k thank

You bought an eMachines and you're surprised you're having problems?!
Contact their TS, MS do not cannot and will not assist with OEM
installations.
