I hope someone can help me... I live in Toronto and we have 3 different area
codes, 905 / 647 / 416, that may or may not be long distance. My problem
is that when I set up a contact Outlook automatically puts a 1 in front of
the area code and in some cases that number is not long distance. I have
tried to change the settings in the dialling properties and it appears to
have not done anything... the feature to call from Outlook contacts is one
that I would like to use on a regular basis, but this problem makes it very
difficult to use the dialler feature.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have tried that and in fact changed everything I can think of ... such as
uncheck the 1 for long distance and my contacts in Outlook still have a 1 in
front of the phone #. I have deleted the number and re-entered it and the 1
still defaults on the number.. if possible can you be more specific as to
how I can eliminate the automatic insertion of the 1 in a local call... as
the area code is mandatory in all calls...

Thanks
Dave

You can set up dialing rules in Control Panel | Phone & Modem to tell
Outlook how to handle different area codes.

Changing the dialing properties does not change how numbers are *displayed* in Outlook. What it does is control how they are dialed. So leave the 1 there and set up the dialing rule so that it always dials the area code when the number is in your own area code.
