I saw a post in here a while ago about people with MusicMatch 7.5+ who
installed Windows XP. Whenever they started it up, it froze after the main
window loads. I was getting the same error even after reformating the
computer. I noticed after I installed Visual Basic support that came with
Office XP that MusicMatch was causing a Visual Basic error when it tried to
connect to the internet. I went to Microsoft's website, clicked on
downloads and searched for "Visual Basic," "Windows Script 5.0" came up and
so I tried installing it. After restarting the computer the problem stopped
and I can finally use MusicMatch again.

The fix works with 7.5 paid edition. Not sure about the new 8.0 or the free
7.5.

Good luck!

Jay, I was suffering the same problem and this was the only entry I
could find that matched my problem. However your solution didnt work!
Having said that, I have eventually found a solution and thought it
might be useful for others to post it here as well.

My problem was that i have two sound drivers installed on my XP
machine and it looks like this confuses MusicMatch when you start it
up. The offending application was Total Recorder (for recording
streamed audio). I uninstalled this and - hey presto - MusicMatch
works! To be fair to MusicMatch, I found this solution in their FAQ
(but it did take some searching) so i still maintain that their
support isnt very good.

I'm not sure that Total Recorder per se is the culprit as the support
note says that where there is more than one sound driver things may go
wrong.

Hope this is of help to somebody!
