Sam

Does anyone else have this problem. For some reason when
listening to MP3's, web radio or any type of music
formats it sometimes tends to skip during the songs. It
doesn't happen all of the time, maybe 70% of the time or
less but it is quite annoying. I've reformated my hard
drive thinking it may have been a virus but it didnt
work. It seems to happen when something happens on the
computer, i.e someone signs in MSN Messenger or a website
is loading or opening a program. I've only experienced
this problem with XP. Any help/solutions from anyone
would be nice, thanks

You need to give some details of your setup.

Try this in the meantime :

Start > Run > type msconfig > OK > Startup > eliminate those programmes you
don't need > Apply > OK > Reboot > Tick the box that shows once started >
OK. If you unchecked some programmes you should have more resources
available. If that doesn't work, re-post, giving the specs of your PC.

Cheers,
Jerry

The most common cause is not enough computing horsepower and/or ram "under
the hood"
Either basically or you may have too many additional apps running when you
try to listen to music.

Hi Sam,

If you have WMP 9, you can try adjusting the buffering setting on the
Performance Tab of the Tools->Options dialog. This will have the
side-effect of WMP using more memory but will allow more music to be decoded
into memory so playback has a better chance of being unbroken during times
of high CPU load.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem. Not only does the music skip but
sometimes it slurs. It does it with MusicMatch and Windows
media player. I'm 100% sure I have all the latest
drivers. It's reaaly annoying trying to listen to music. My
computer is a 1G Athalon with 384M ram with a sound
blasterlive value card and a Radon 9600 graphic card with
380G of hard drive space. I also have a P2-300 running
98SE with an old sound card and it doesn't have this
problem. ANY Help??

I have exactly the same symtoms.

Slurring, skipping, popping etc. I have LOTS of ram and horsepower.

Also my SPDIF output does not work worth a hoot in 5.1 channel mode.
