I have added music to my presentation. I can hear it on
my computer. When I send it via email, the presentation
is there - but no music. Song - We wish you a merry
christmas.mid file.

Any sound file that is greater in file size than your settings under
"Tools", "Options" will be "linked" and not "imbedded", therefore you will
need to send the sound file as well as the presentation. However, if this
is the case, you will need to make sure the link also works. The best way
to ensure this is to copy the sound file into the same folder as your
PowerPoint presentation, THEN insert the sound file. That way no matter
where the two files are moved to as long as they are in the same folder, the
sound will play.

I was having the same problem and tried the suggestion
listed below (moving 8kb midi file to same folder as pps)
and still no music when emailed to someone else.

Did you reinsert the sound file on your slide after you moved it? The steps
are as follows:

1. Create your presentation and save it to a folder
2. Copy over any files that might be linked within the presentation to the
same folder as above
3. Insert your linked objects (any midi file, any wab file greater than your
settings, any movie file)

Now it will work.

It is still not working gosh darn it!

1. Created and saved presentation to a folder
2 Copied midi sequence (8kb) into same folder
3. Deleted, then re-inserted midi from same folder into
the presnetation.
4. Unter Tools, Options, General Tab changed Link sounds
with file size greater than to 4 (was at 100). (??)
5. Sent to my boss via email and midi music still does not
play. I have to be missing something really simple here.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Did you also send the .mid file?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

PowerPoint does not include supporting (or linked) content for a
presentation when you send a presentation via e-mail.

There are a variety of workarounds including:

* Pack and Go (or Package for CD) to create a "portable" set (folder) of
files to send (don't use the Send command in PowerPoint).
* Saving as HTML and posting to a location e-mail recipients can access and
then just sending them the address of the web page for the presentation.
* Saving as MHTML (single page web file) and sending as e-mail attachment
(this is what the MHTML format is intended for).

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
the "Send to ->Mail Recipient" command should include option(s) which make
it possible for recipients to see or receive the supporting/linked content,
don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible. Each submission should be
a single suggestion (not a list of suggestions).

The mid file has to be IN the folder with the PPT when you insert it or the
link won't work.
Then you have to send the mid file and the PPT as email attachments
Then the recipient has to ensure that the mid file and the PPT end up in the
same folder before they try to play the PPT
Fraught with terror and error at every step along the way. ;-)

....according to the pp user's help menu .. when you send a
pps file thru email or burn to a cd you have to include
the actual music file as well...dd

Thanks.
