music in slide show

i have a number of photos per slide so that I can animate the photos to fade
in and out overlapping. My problem is that I don't know how to insert a
sound file that will play simultaneously to the animated photos in that
slide. Is there a better way to do this while keeping the animation?

OK, I figured out how to get the music into the slide so that it plays
simultaneously. Now how do I get it to fade out at the end of the slide so
that the next slide can begin?

You can't fade audio in PowerPoint. You will need a sound editor (free) such
as Audacity to do it.

You will need to use sound editing software to adjust the length of the music
and add a fade. Then set the slide transition to auto after 0 secs.
