Music file formats, default settings, converting

Apparently I have made the WinAmp format the default setting for all my music
files.
I would like to know where to go to change that default setting.
Also, now that my music files are in WinAmp's format, how do I get them back
into a WAV file for editing? (Would like to use Sound Forge or others, to
crop, normalize, etc.)

Thanks

1) You can change associations in Explorer through Tools | Folder_Options |
File_Types.

2) If you start the application from a data file (song), you are not
confined to the *default* application. Right-click on the data title, then
select "Open with...".

3) You can still open data files from the application.

4) Considering (2) you may well decide to associate an extension with a
viewer (WinAmp included, but I default to IrfanView) for speed and sefety,
rather than a slow-to-open full-blown program that might cause unintentional
editing.
