Windows XP Music and DVD films sound playing to fast on computer.

My brother has just bought a computer from one of his mates,when he puts a music cd into the computer the sound of the music is going too fast,he tryed putting a dvd film in the computer and again the sound of the people in the film speaking is really fast.Can someone tell me what settings to change to get it working ok please.
 
what software are you using to watch the DVD's and listen to the music ?
 
He has Windows XP and tonight put in the Nero cd.

He plays the dvd film and music on Windows Media Player.

He also said the same thing happens from music or small video clips that he downloads from his phone.

Try using different codecs and diferent player...like Mv2, if not just check the drivers of the soundcard
