Movie Maker 2
I want to use music from a file on some portions of my movie and on other
portions, use the audio that is already in the background of the movie I
recorded. How do I do this? For example, I don't want to have the
background sound heard with my music, and then in the next clip, I just want
the background sound.

copy any clips that you want to use just the audio from onto the Audio/Music
track, not the Video track.... then split and trim the two audio tracks
independent of each other.

If you drag a video clip to the Audio/Music track, MM2 will know you are
interested in just the audio from it... and you can drag 2 copies of the
same clip onto the two tracks of the timeline.

Hello,

Movie Maker lacks the ability to vary the audio in a nice smooth manner the way
most other packages can.

Its a bit of a pain but you can get around it by placing the video on both the
video and lower audio time lines....sounds stupid yes, but that how it works in
Movie Maker.....here is a simple walk through method...

1) Create the video using the DV-AVI method

2) Import the result back into Movie Maker

3) Drag the new video to the time line and drag a second copy onto the lower
audio track.

4) Mute the audio in the upper time line by right clicking it and selecting Mute

5) Supposing you want to replace the audio between the one minute and two minute
positions....

a) Drag the time line cursor to the one minute 5 second position and cut the
lower audio track (This is to enable overlapping of audio)

b) Drag the timeline cursor to the one minute 55 second position and again cut
the lower audio track.

c) Select the audio on the lower track between these two positions and delete
it.

d) Drag your replacement audio down and into the section previously occupied by
the deleted section...overlapping as desired.

e) Movie Maker will probably right shift the remaining audio, you can slide it
back after finished positioning the replacement audio. Its for this reason that
I gave specific time positions....you will not have to do any trial and
error...just slide it back so that it starts at the one minute 55 second
position. Obviously you would take note of the positions before inserting the
replacement audio.

6) You can now right click each of the sections on the lower audio track and
adjust their individual volume settings. And because you overlapped the various
sections you will get a smooth transition between the clips.

You can do the same with the original video cutting and chopping as you go,
but, do you think the professionals would do that???? and if you make a mistake
how easy would it be to get out of it?

Have Fun :)
