I have SP4 on W2K Terminal Server running. I found several articles about
this, but am still a little unclear as to how to fix it. In order to just
run, I have renamed the file and rebooted. Then I got an error saying that
one service did not start. This was what I expected since I needed to know
what service had a hold on the file. The article from MS says that the
system hangs right after the upgrade service pack 4 is put on and IF DFS
client is turned off. Now the only DFS that I have in the services area is
just DFS. It is set to automatic and it is on. Is this the client that
they are referring to? And if so then why is it erroring when it is turned
on?
Next, it mentions a fix, but requires that I call MS to get it and that it
will cost me to find out if this is the problem. Then they say that if it
is not the problem, then they will charge me. Excuse me, but they wrote
this software. Why should I pay for something that they caused.
They also talk about a new file mup.sys that is dated in July of this year.
Why can't I just get a download of this file and put into place to see if it
solves the problem? Does anyone know where I can get this file without
having to go through all of this mumbo jumbo with MS support.
I guess that I also don't know what turning this DFS off in my services will
effect. My internal LAN is rather simple I think. I just have three LINUX
boxes, and about 10 windows boxes doing rather low volume tasks. Do I even
need this DFS running?
