Cor,

In a recent reply you wrote:

"Please do not multipost, I answered this in the language.vb groups.
Regulars
in the dotnet newsgroups like it when you crosspost."

I have seen you write similar things before, in which you say that
multiposting is bad but crossposting is good. Could you please explaing
what the difference is? The two terms look synonymous to me.

Thanks very much!

Hi Rob,

When you multipost, you send a separate messages to every newsgroups, when
you cross post you add in the newsgroup line more newsgroups.

Many of the regulars are active in more newsgroups, when we see that another
one has given an answer and that is correct in our opinion, than we do not
add again. If we see there is maybe a mistake made (that happens often, not
express but because of interpreting a line in another way) we correct each
other.

Sometimes a question can be viewed from more points and sometimes a question
cannot be answered completely. With cross post you can than give a not
complete answer.

Mostly a not opened question will be looked at, when it is a multipost you
cannot see if there was an answer. I can assure you as example that when
there is an question about Oracle in this newsgroup I do not even look to
it. While when it comes as a post the languages.vb newsgroup I tell there
that, it can better be asked in this newsgroup. With a cross post there is
no need to give that answer.

I hope that this explains it a little bit?

Thanks very much, Cor. That is quite helpful. I wasn't aware that
cross-posting was an option. I'll keep it in mind for times when I'm not
sure what domain my question should be in.

Rob

Multiposting is posting the same message over and over again.

1. Problem with ASP.NET
2. Having a problem with ASP.NET

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Crossposting is posting to multiple groups.

Multiposting is a waste of time, as you read the same problem over and over
again. Repeating a post a few days later, as it was missed, is okay, but
firing off ten in a span of a few minutes, with different subject lines? Not
good.

Crossposting can also be a bad exercise if you start posting to groups
unrelated to the problem, so I would not say crossposting is necessarily
good. It can be, if used correctly, but very bad if not.

Hi Cowboy,

My idea is different what you write
Multiposting is posting the same message with (build in) different
headers to more newsgroups
Crossposting is posting the same message in one time and with the same
headers to more newsgroups.

Cor

We are talking the same thing, just a bit different language. The multipost
irritates the crap out of me, personally. Crossposting can annoy me, when it
is SPAMming; otherwise, it is okay.
