I've recently implemented Linksys based wireles network at
my appt.128 bit WEP has enabled.
I'm running winxp pro with all updates installed.
The problem is:I have 6 or 7 Wireles networks available
from my neighborhood and my adapter constantly hops from
one to another and back to mine,or just indicates the "new
network" is available. And drops the connection in a
meantime.
I put "MY" network in "preferable networks" box.
Nothing...
It hops and loses connection,so i can't download 5mb file.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advise.

Have you tried to change the channel on the access point
(wireless network router)? Set both your clients and the
access point to the same default channel. You could also
try setting the clients to require a secure WEP
connection, but I think you may have conflicts on the
current channel.

Make sure you have changed the SSID name from Linksys to something else.
With 6 or 7 networks in range, you may have trouble finding a clear channel.
Try channel 11 and then 1 on the wireless router/access point. Depending on
which Linksys wireless client you have, you may be able to download
netstumbler (www.netstumbler.com) and see what access points are using what
channels.

To change SSID doesn't help, 'cause all others are
different then "Linksys",and mine is as prefered network.
I've changed the chanel on router.
Where exactly in WinXP pro i can change chanel?
And i can't find setting to NOT connect to non preferred
networks?
Thanks.

You change the channel on your access point or router. XP will handle
finding the correct channel. Select the Wireless Networks tab in the
Wireless Connections Properties window and then click the Advanced button
down near the bottom for the setting to not connect to non preferred
networks.
