Multiple users that aren't really there

I have an application (DVD Builder) that has been working fine, but now when
I try to start it I get a message that says it cannot be started because
there is another user logged in and the app is running under their account.
I am instructed to log off the other user and then start the app. The
problem is that there are no other accounts set up on this machine! I am
using a fairly recent XP Home installation and everything has been running
fine until now. I only set up one account with no password and disabled the
guest account. There aren't any other computers on the network. I even
double checked USERS in control panel to see if something was set up that I
didn't know about, but it only showed my main account. Any suggestions or
information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The message is probably coming from the app (someone had to program this check into the app - normally you can start a program as many times as you want).

So you should ask at DVD Builder web site. Then search google. I have (and google also searched roxio's site as well) but you didn't provide the full text of the error. Ctrl + C in a message box copies the message box to the clipboard.

As a wild guess the engine service has been configured with a user account rather than a system account.

In pro

tasklist /v

will list running proceses and who is running them. So will task manager if you tick the box that says show proceses for all users.
