Assuming you are talking about the Welcome screen..
When you choose your picture, that is what you and they see for your name.
When they choose their pictures, that is what they and you see for their
names.
The Welcome screen is seen the same for all users, because there is a
possibility no one is logged in to determine what that pictures should be
(if it even had that feature.)
If you mean MSN Messenger, whatever you choose your picture to be is sent to
everyone that has you on their list.
