Multiple simultaneous user connections?

Hi,

This question is not specific to Windows 2000 server. I’m hoping this will
also work on XP Pro. Currently XP Pro will only allow 1 user to connect at a
time by locking the system. On Windows server it seems to allow more than one
but still only a few.

The issue is that our company is purchasing several laptops/notebooks. Since
people take home their laptop they don’t have anything to “Terminal Connectâ€
to. Rather than having to purchase individual Desktops for each user of a
Laptop I want to run 1 desktop system that will allow all the users to
connect to it. And be able to do so simultaneously if need be.

Thanks in advance for your knowledge,
- James

Windows 2000 Server has two TS modes, Remote Administration,
which allows maximum 2 users, and Application Server, which will
allow as many users as your software/hardware will permit.

Remote Admin mode doesn't require any TS licenses, and is used
mainly for remote administration of the server.

Application Server mode requires that you have a TS CAL for
each unique physical device that will connect to the machine, in
addition to the normally required Windows Server CAL for each
device.

From what you are describing you want Application Server mode.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. So XP Pro does not have this ability? Just Windows server?

Where would I go to get licenses for Application Server mode?

Thanks,
- James

XP Pro only supports 1 concurrent user, as you have found out.

You can purchase TS CALs and Windows Server CALs from your
Microsoft reseller.
