So far I have not found anything on the web about this.
But we have had a surge of calls about people having thier IE opening
then closing right away.

When the network cable is unplugged IE stays open.

So far I have not had a chance to see this for myself but something
unusual may be happening.

But you haven't given us any information about the computers, the network,
the virus/malware status of the machines, if all these machines are in the
same workplace, what you've already done to troubleshoot, etc. So how can
we give you focused help?

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?

Disabling the third party browser extensions appears to resolve it for ssome
strange reason.

No idea what is causing it though

Open up 'my comptuer'
Open c:\program files\internet explorer\
Right click on 'ieproxy.dll' and select 'copy' (you may have to 'show hidden
files')
Open c:\windows\system32
Paste ieproxy.dll here
Close down all open windows (save data if need be)
Click on 'start' and 'run' and in the 'run' box type 'regsvr32 ieproxy.dll'
You should see a message telling you it was 'sucessfull', click 'ok'
Restart your computer.

Your browser will stop flashing. Did you every have any issues with the
time on your computer? Did you ever use a program called "atomic clock"?

Disable your Yahoo Companion and any other Yahoo software in your 3rd party
add-ons.
Just confirmed this. Now we have to call an insane amount of people to tell
them how to fix it.

I dont use any yahoo products. Ieproxy.dll has fixed all 50 or more cases
that I've delt with.

I've disabled the Yahoo components on a few of my customer's affected
systems, and that seems to do the trick.

When did you start seeing this Ray? In my experience we only started
seeing this early this morning (or possibly in the wee hours of last
night). Was yours earlier?

I haven't seen ieproxy.dll on any cases that I have dealt with yet. What
environment were those systems in?

I started seeing this behavior late last night, while I was remotely working
on a client's system.....I then received a few calls this morning from other
clients, experiencing the same affliction.

Sorry about the blank post, just signed on to this group, and hit the wrong
key - *doh!*

Is it a bad sign if there is no 'ieproxy.dll' in c:\program files\internet
explorer\?
View hidden files button is checked in WinExp Tools-Folder Options-View
I never had Yahoo plug-ins, but IE stopped working a few days ago, freezes
either on startup or when you click a link and the screen populates - Task
Manager shows 2 lines for IE 'Not Responding'.
Firefox works fine, but I do check for XP updates with IE, which leaves me
up a creek.
