Multiple Records in DNS

I found out that in my DNS Database with Automatic Update/AD integrated, I
have Different hostnames pointing to same IP addresses.

I found out that when you join thee machine in the domain and later on you
disjoin it and assign a new host name It will keep the old name in the DNS
database.


Is there a way to automatically delete those obsolete records in the DNS in
let say in a partiular amount of time.

Right click on the zone, choose properties, on the General tab, click the
Aging button. Select, 'Scavenge stale resource records' I give it the same
time as the DHCP lease. Don't go less than the DHCP lease, the record will
get deleted before the lease expires and the record re-registered.
You can also enable Windows 2000 option 002 to release addresses on
shutdown. This should delete the records on DHCP clients that go through
shutdown. I don't think this will work on clients that are disconnected or
are powered off without shutdown. I know this option even works on XBox, or
at least it seems to.
