Multiple projects to 1 movie file

Is there a way of adding multiple projects (each with theirs own x-number of
clips) to a single movie file?

Therefore, I want one movie on a CD.

PapaJohn,

After saving the files in DV-AVI, they show to be very large movie files.
When I "string them together into your final movie", it's going to be one
humongous file. How can I save this movie to CD-RW?

Will the file size decrease so as to fit on the CD, or will I need to invest
in DVD-R(W) and related software?

PapaJohn,

Why does a video clip file (saved as a movie DV-AVI file) have such a huge
file size when the original file (captured from a camcorder), or a created as
movie make project file is so small?

ex: a movie maker project file is 277kb while it's video clip equivalent is
5,315,664kb

Yes... DV-AVI files are about 13 GB of file size per hour of duration... you
wouldn't usually put them onto CDs.

A CD would have MPEG-1 or 2 files (VCD or SVCD), and DVDs would have
MPEG-2.... all of which are highly compressed. And you could also save the
file as a WMV file and put that on a disc.... again a highly compressed
file. Discs can fit about an hour of video but with appropriate compression
so they fit.

The reason for saving as DV-AVI during the project editing phase is to
retain maximum quality, as each rendering to a more compressed format will
result in quality loss.

The DV-AVI file size is the same as that captured from a digital
camcorder... unless you opt to capture to a WMV file, a much more compressed
format.

The size of the project file (.MSWMM) has nothing to do with the size of the
source files or the saved movie.... it only contains pointers to the
captured or imported files, info about the portion you're using, and a small
thumbnail image.... using a one hour 13 GB file as a source, and saving a
one hour edited movie to another 13 GB file wouldn't need much file size for
the project.

Movie Maker uses the word 'import' when bringing in a source file, but it's
really a 'linking' process as a copy of the file isn't made.

OK,

So here is what I have:
10 very large movie files. No more editing will take place. I can import
them and string them together to make 1 movie.

Due to spacing limitations, what format do I save them in in preparations to
saving them to formatted CD-RW with 561mb of space? What are the steps (as
explained to a 3 year old)?

For starters, consider a 1 hour video as a high quality one for a disc (DVD
or CD)... you don't say how long the playing times of your 10 very large
movies are.... if the files are large but not the playing times, that's very
different than the playing times being large....

So they may or may not all fit on a single disc.... the files that go on the
discs are MPEG files, not the DV-AVI or WMV types saved by Movie Maker... so
how much will fit depends on the settings you use when converting the movies
to
MPEG.

================

I can only make very general steps:

- decide if you want to use VCDs or SVCDs... they can each be burned onto
discs.

- read the HowTo article about your choice at
http://www.videohelp.com/author - Go to the dropdown lists of 'How To
Category'.

- after deciding what you want to make and what software you will be using,
then it's time to decide how to best save the movie in Movie Maker and do
any conversion needed to get it to your disc making software.
