Multiple profiles appearing

I have an issue where multiple locally cached copies are appearing on PCs
from users who have manditory roaming profiles. Examples: username
username.domain, username.domain.000, username.domain.001, etc. We use Group
Policy to remove the locally cached profile at logoff and we are also using
UPH Clean to make sure the operating system isn't "holding on" to the locally
cached profiles. This setup used to clean the profiles off the computers, but
now it's not working on some of the computers. Does anyone know why this
would be happening?

A new, alternative-named profile will be created if the previous
profile-folder still exists at logon, but the ProfileImagePath value for
this SID in the registry has been removed.

As to discovering why, that would involve some investigation. It's possible
that the profile-folder itself is not being deleted because of files which
are not being closed properly by some application or process. An examination
of the folder (with another account) after logoff might reveal which files.
