Hello....I created a new profile for my wife to use and gave her administrator
privileges. The problem is that when I go into her profile and I have the
desktop showing, I cannot right click on my mouse to cut and paste or put
shortcuts for IE or Outlook on the desktop. All that happens is the cursor
turns into an hour glass and the system hangs. What am I missing here??
Are there further security issues for me to deal with to allow my other
profile
user to have basic functionality??? I cant even change the desktop wallpaper
in the new profile!. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure exactly what happened here, sounds as if you did something untowards
when you applied permissions.

My recommendation: Back up anything important in the suspect profile. From
your account, right click my computer, click properties, advanced, user
profiles. Delete the offending profile. Establish a new account for her,
making her an administrator. See if that works.

Hello Rob...I had just tried deleting the profile and logged into the Guest
account and guess what...the same problem exists with that account as well.
If I right click on the desktop, my cursor becomes an hour glass and it just
sits there. Could it be a problem with logitec access keyboard I am using??
I did nothing to change any permissions on either the new profile or the guest
account. I selected administrator permission for the new profile and that was
all I did when creating it. Now that I see the Guest account acting up, I am
really perplexed. My original profile (that I use daily) has no problems
whatsoever. Any further thoughts on this??? Thanks in advance.

Well, seems like the OS is confused on a basic level here. Did you try
creating the new account and seeing if it does that too? You should disable
the guest account anyway, it's a security risk. At this point I need to know
what OS (XP Pro or Home), antivirus running, firewall status, and the status
of your Windows Updates. Re-applying SP-2 and then re-applying all the
hotfixes since then is probably the next step. A repair install of XP is
likely the next step if that doesn't work.
