multiple printer (same) listed can't delete

Have a friend that was having printer problems. I had him check to in
control panel and see what was listed in the printer icon.
There were 8 of the same printer, had him deleted thenm, but when the
computer was resetarted there were 8 listed again.
I had him turn the comp. on before the restart to see if it would find it.
any suggestions,
