Colleagues,

When starting up my XP Pro, before the XP screen appears
(still in the "black and white pages" I get multiple
operating systems--two lines of Microsoft XP Pro, two
lines of Microsoft 2000, and one line of Microsoft XP Pro.

I'd like to edit out all but the top line of Microsoft XP
Pro, as it's the only one that actually launches XP pro.

Any help would be much appreciated, as the system
defaults to the bottom XP Pro line which won't load the
operating system.

Go to Control Panel and click on the System Icon. Click the advanced tab and
then click the Settings button in the Startup and recovery section.
In the startup and recovery window click the Edit button to edit your boot
ini file. You need to remove all the lines that you do not need.
You should end up with the following:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

After editing the boot ini file click the File option on the main toolbar
and select Save. Next go back to the File option and select Exit to exit
notepad. When you restart your machine you the old boot menu will have
disappeared and you should boot directly into windows xp
