When Windows XP Pro starts up and MS Antispyware starts,
three or four MSAS icons appear in the system tray. THey
will stay there until I hover my mouse over them. They
will then disappear.

Anybody else see this behavior and do you know why?

Do you use TightVNC or RealVNC or any other VNC
application to remote control your computer? Also, is
this a Tablet PC? This seems to affect most if not all
Tablet users.

Under Taskmanager, the Microsoft AntiSpyware Processes
are represented by,:
gcasDTServ.exe and gcasServ.exe, if those are running,
Real time protection is enabled.

You can also try doing a repair:
Go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click
Microsoft AntiSpyware
and click Change. Click Next, and then click Update.
Also, check back on it
in beta 2.

Please share response to this query!
Same occurs to me. The only guess I have is that all old
versions pop up and the final version remains.
I don't know how to hide the original poster's post, yet.
I want to concentrate on one thing at one time.
Please answer this for the both of us!
Thanks!

Same problem PLUS Real Time Protection Goes Away
after using IE a few times ( open and close ).

Task gcasDTServ goes away in Task Manager.
( right click Task Bar to open Task Manager )

Task restores by opening MSAS.

I am also running Norton Sys Works 2005, Ad-Aware SE Plus,
HW Fire Fire Wall, XP Fire Wall and Pop Up Blocker.

USELESS protection - When will beta 2 release ???

Beta2 will release this year.

I am having this same problem - Does anyone know why MSAS does this? Is it
using extra system resources? Are multiple version of the program loading &
then unloading? Very odd behavior.

Are you running the program on a Tablet PC?

Is a VNC host session active?

Do you have a fingerprint reader device attached to your machine?

Each of these is known to cause this symptom. I don't know of a fix or
workaround. My understanding is that if you mouse over them, the "phantoms"
disappear--I don't think there are multiple processes running at once--but
you could monitor that in task manager.

This is unlikely to be fixed before beta2.
