I am trying to set up my laptop to use multiple monitors. I just see
the same thing on the built-in screen and the external monitor. When I
check the box "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" and click
apply, it unchecks itself and nothing changes. What do I need to do to
get this to work correctly?
This can be very tricky on some computers. You need detailed
instructions for the specific video card your computer uses. If you do
not have such detailed information for your video card, you may have to
go to the site of your computer maker or the site of the video card
maker to find and download the instructions. These instructions may be
buried in a large number of pages describing settings that most never
need, once the card has been properly installed on the computer.
My video card allows several types of dual output. One will extend the
screen across two monitors. Another will give the same view on both
monitors. Yet another allows your normal primary monitor and a s-video
output for a normal TV set(useful for viewing movies played on a
computer). My video card has been updated 3 times, and each time the
dual output has been turned off and had to be reset. To make matters
worse, the menus greatly changed at each update.
