Need to have identical desktop on two monitors in different locations.
System was working, unhooked secondary monitor, moved and re-hooked second
monitor in second location, now can't see duplicate desktop on second
monitor. Screen saver appears on both monitors but icons and applications
are visible only on primary monitor. Got to be a simple switch/checkbox
somewhere to get duplicate desktop on second monitor, but can't figure it
out...any suggestions appreciated! thanks!

What do you mean by duplicate desktops?

Most of the basic drivers included with XP will support:
- an extended desktop: one big desktop spanning both monitors (check expand
desktop in Display Properties> Settings to enable)
- cloning: two identical desktops however they do not work independently.
Instead they mirror each other - what happens on one, happens on the other
(uncheck expand desktop in Display properties).

Third party programs and some display driver packages include "virtual" or
customized desktops. This allows you to customize x number of desktops and
save them - calling them up as needed. For example, you might setup one
desktop for office work and another for gaming. Since this is not a native
function of XP's multiple monitor support, this feature would not be
available unless there is additional software installed that supports it.
