Multiple Mini-Problems

Every time I think I know quite a bit about computers, I either hit a brick
wall on something simple or I come here and read some of the answers you guys
post and I am humbled like an abused puppy dog! But here goes...
I installed Windows XP Pro a few years ago and it has been running fine.
However, after adding programs and ending up with too much trash and
problems, I find it is time to re-format and re-install. (Some of the
problems I couldn't figure out for example: Since a few months ago, I can
only open one window at a time in Internet Explorer; the old window closes
when the new one opens/ After installing XP on drive C:, the option to choose
which operating system I wanted to use on boot-up disappeared. [Windows 2000
pro resides on drive D:] I was able to choose which operating system I wanted
to use prior to the last re-installation. Both systems use the New Technology
File Systems, (NTFS); I can't open another folder on another computer on the
same network without getting a "...not accessible. Access is denied."
dialogue box, even though I have removed the passwords on both systems. [I
would appreciate finding out how to access other computers' drives with
passwords in place across the network, by the way.]; and finally, when I go
to re-format and re-install Windows XP Pro on drive C:, on boot up I get the
dialogue, "A BOOTABLE CD WAS FOUND IN THE CD ROM DRIVE." and Windows XP
continues starting normally without giving me the option to repair or
anything else. Very frustrating for someone who is supposed to be computer
literate!)
Anyway, any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. At least
this way I can LOOK smart if the problem comes up with a friend's computer!
Thanks, y'all.

At boot up enter the BIOS and set the boot order to boot first from CD.
When the system boots it might give a message to press any key to boot
from CD. If so, do so.

It would make your post much more readable if you broke it up into short
paragraphs.

Thinking you have SP2 installed, with youre network connection, have you
edited the firewall in control panel, exceptions, add program/add port. You may
need to add port,or try in internet connections, use the"create a new
connection
wizard" .Also, are you reinstalling xp thru xp cd boot menu,if so ok,but
where is
2000 located,on the same drive as xp? If so thats where youre problem lies on
installation,if 2000 is on same, you ought to remove it,delete the partition
and
leave it raw. Then once xp is installed, format the unallocated space, and
reinstall
2000.XP doesnt do well on installation if printer(s),scanners,or other
drives or
partitions are present with data on it.

Thanks for the help, Rock and Andrew. Just so you know, I was finally able to
boot from the XP CD and reinstall Windows. The problem was that all of my CD
drives were going through an ATA card and were not recognized until Windows
started loading all the drivers. By unplugging one of the CD ROM's from the
ATA card and plugging it into the IDE port, the system recognized the CD ROM
at boot-up and started from the CD.
As for the multi-option problem, after reinstalling XP Pro, I booted with
the XP CD and used the repair option, then logged on as Administrator, then
went to "BOOTCFG /REBUILD" and added the 2000 Pro OS to the boot.ini file
that way. That solved the multi-boot problem. Now I can either boot from
Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro.
Hope this information helps with your future problems.
