Multiple media reader no longer detected

Have Windows XP, Service Pack 2. Reader did work several times since receipt
of computer. Inserted card from camera and got error message, did not catch
in time. Checked My Computer, drives associated with reader no longer
listed. Restarted computer, inserted card, no workee. Any ideas?
 
Remove the card reader in the device manager, reboot pc, computer should
reinstall the then new device, then retry it.
