Multiple Listings for contacts and contacts not displayed

I am new to using Outlook 2002/2003. I recently upgraded from 2000 and am having trouble. When selecting a name from the "Select Names" dialog box (after clicking the "To" button in a new email) there are multiple listings for some contacts. I have figured out on my own that the duplicates are due to multiple email addresses for those contacts. Is there a way to have Outlook list only the "primary" email for all contacts? I have purposely set all my contacts with a primary email if there are multiples

Secondly, when creating a new distribution list, I can only view the names that HAVE email addresses in the "Select Names" dialog box. Any contacts which only have addresses/phone numbers do not display. I understand the purpose of eliminating them but I'd like them shown anyway. Is this possible

Thanks for your help!

The purpose of the Outlook Address Book is to list each electronic address
separately. This is by design and cannot be changed. If you only want one
primary email for each Contact, only enter one.

Your DL question is puzzling me. The sole purpose of DL's is to send emails
to multiple recipients. Why should it contain street addresses?

After a little more research I've realized that what I was trying to do with Distribution lists wasn't correct. I'm new to mail merges and I thought that by creating a DL in Outlook I could use that list in a Word merge

Is there anyway to have Outlook 2003 distinguish between the addresses I set as primary and those I have as secondary? Perhaps an asterix or "bold" for the primary addresses so I pick the right one. The reason I have primary addresses set is because I often don't remember each person's email preferences, but I still need all of their email addresses in case.

No. Outlook does not designate one email address as a default. Each is
listed separately so you can choose the one you want for a given message.

Mail merges can't use Distributions Lists. You can just merge directly to
your Contacts Folder and filter the merge from there.

Thanks so much for your help. It all makes sense now... I guess everyone has their own little quirks they'd like taken care of :

Thanks again.

New programs are always difficult to get used to, aren't they?
