Multiple LAN connections

I bring my portable LAP between different locations and of course do I
connect it to LAN's that requires different settings. I would beleive that
it must be possible to have more than one LAN connection set up on the
computer. How can this be done?

When I have set up one LAN connection and then want to connect my computer
another place I want to establish a new connection. Then WinXP just tells me
that the connection already is working and that I have to edit the settings.
Then I have to type in all the TCP/IP adresses etc.

I just want to have two icons for the same LAN port. Isn't it possible?

How configure TCP/IP to access to different networks
1. if all networks use dhcp, logon locally.

2. if one company uses static ip and another use DHCP, use alternative
configuration.
3. Doesn't matter which case, you can always use netsh.exe switch the
settings without rebooting.

Hello there,

What you want to do is possible if you install a second network card (if you
only plug into 2 networks and don't want to change the settings al lthe
time). Do the networks into which you plug in offer DHCP? If yes, then set
you IP properties to get an IP address automatically. You might have to
change the domain or workgroup, and that will require a re-boot.

Alternatively, in the advanced button of your LAN properties, add the second
IP address in the box provided:

Start -> Settings -> Network Connections -> right-click LANconnection ->
choose properties -> double-click TCP/IP -> click on Advanced ->
-> under IP Addresses click Add

Hope this helps
