Multiple instances of IE in memory

When I start and stop IE the instance in memory does not
go away. Thus, after a few times I will have multiple
instances in memory and it bogs my mahine down. I up
updated will all current patches for IE 6.X (latest
version).

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite)

Download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/
