I have been having numerous troubles, spyware, system
crashes, system hangs and unable to boot properly. so this
weekend i went in and reformatted my hard drive and
reloaded windows XP. i have a nvidia geforce 2 mx400,
soundblaster sound, 640mb ram, 950Mhz AMD. after reloading
XP everything seemed to be just fine, then it started all
over again, i have to do a hard reboot multiple times to
get windows to finally run, everytime i reboot it gets
further into windows, meaning i boot computer up and get
black screen (hangs), do hard shut down, get to windows xp
loading screen with logo and scrolling bar(hangs),shut
down, get to black screen with cursor(hangs), shut down,
etc. sometimes i get to the screen to select safe
mode/last known good configuration(this sometimes hangs
too and will not let me out) or it goes to the scan disk
screen and gives messages about "the size of the
\windows\system32\config\system.log entry is not valid,
the size of the windows\system32\config\software.log entry
is not valid". these are some of the same messages i have
gotten before i did the clean sweep and fresh load of XP.
could someone please help? i have all the latest drivers
and the latest service packs loaded.

Symptoms like that are indicative of a hardware related error, with
numerous possible candidates.

With an AMD overheating is always a strong possibility, although that
should get worse, not better, after the computer has been left running
for a while.

RAM is another prime suspect. Download a RAM testing utility such as
DocMemory (free) from www.simmtester.com and run it to test the RAM in
your machine.

Good luck
