I am using motherboard with 2 ethernet ports. I have a
cable broadband connection via a router on 1 port. I would
like to set up a local network with another computer on
the other port to be able to connect my laptop for file
sharing. So far I have been unable to get either computer
to see the other. I do not want to share the internet over
this connection nor do I want to share files over my
broadband connection. Any Ideas? Is there somewhere I can
read about using more than one ethernet port at the same
rime?

setup two NICs are the different ip rang and don't enable ip routing. both
lan computers should use the same ip range and subnet. if you already done
these, go to http://www.ChicagoTech.net >do-it-yourself tools to test the
settings.
