I just bought a new computerrunning HP home edition and want to install my old computer's hard drive running HP professional. How can I set up my system to run on one drive or the other at startup?

If your BIOS setup utility has an option to select the boot device priority,
and Microsoft Windows XP is IDE 1...

When you want to boot Microsoft Windows XP enter the BIOS setup utility to set
your computer to boot using IDE 1.

Why do you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home is a
subset of Professional and there's nothing in Home that's not
also in Professional? XP Professional and XP Home are exactly the
same in all respects, except that Professional has a few features
(mostly related to networking and security) missing from Home.
For most (but not all) home users, these features aren't needed
and would never be used.. For most home users, there's no real
reason to prefer either over the other.

Also if your old computer with XP Professional is an OEM model,
the license for the OEM version of Windows ties it permanently to
the first computer it's installed on, and it may never be moved
to another. So if that's the case, you can not legally do what
you want.
