Multiple domain servers on same subnet

I have two servers on the same subnet that work
independent of each other, the only thing I would like for
them to share is a tape backup. Is this possible or am i
forced to have only one active directory domain server on
a subnet

It depends on the Backup software you are using. You
should be able to direct both machines through the
software to the same tape drive. As long as both machines
aren't attempting to use the drive at the same time it
should not pose a problem. If you end up a subnet issue,
you might try breaking your subnet with a custom mask or
use a variable length subnet mask. Either way will
probably cause the need for a router, but that is only
if you need to break your subnet.I doubt you will have a
problem.

There is no problem with having several domains or domain controllers on the
same subnet - they don't even have to belong to the same domain or forest.

Depending on how your tape drive connects to the network (TCP/IP or directly
connected to a server), you will have to be aware of authentication issues.
As Chris mentioned you will also need to ensure your backup software will
deal with this.
