Multiple "Contact" Listings when composing email

Hope someone can offer some ideas here, this is driving me crazy (-:

Outlook 2003 (clean install)

When I go to compose email and try to select an address from contacts,
multiple "Contacts" are displayed in the address book dialog box (?)
along with an error message that the contacts list cannot be
displayed. Selecting any of the "Contacts" does nothing until I reach
the last one and there are my contacts suddenly. It's obviously
impractical to continue with this, selecting a contact has become
highly tedious and I know that clearly ought not to be the case.

Not to put too fine a point upon it, but what the hell can I do in
order to correct this situation?

Regards & TIA

The only thing I can think of to try is to remove the Outlook Address Book
and reinstall it. To do this use the following steps:
1. Close Outlook.
2. Go to Start -> Control Panel and double click the Mail icon.
3. Select "E-mail Accounts".
4. Select "View or change existing directories or address books" and Click
Next.
5. Highlight any and all listing for "Outlook Address Book" and Click
Remove.
6. Now Click Add and Select "Additional Address Books" and Click Next.
7. Hightlight the "Outlook Address Book" and Click Next.
8. Click Finish and then Open Outlook and test.

I hope this information is helpful.
