Multiple Administrators - am I an idiot ...

On trying to fix an XP machine, there appears to be 2
administrators on the machine, one named administrator
and the other named administrators.USER-xxx where xxx is
a 7 or 8 alphnumeric string. These are folders within
the Document and Settings folder.

Is this normal and if so - what is this additional
administrator?

The account with the suffix should be a domain admin account. You
shouldn't see duplicate Administrators profiles on a workgroup computer
although if you reinstall XP, you will often see account profiles with a
suffix and similar profiles without a suffix that are orphans of the
previous install.

Since XP identifies accounts by Security ID (SID), it doesn't matter
what the name of the account or name of the profile is, only what the
SID is. SIDs are created fresh when XP is installed.
