Multiple Addresses in Contact LIst

I created a distribution list using names and addresses from a personal
contact list. Some of those names have more than one e-mail address. I
carefully and correctly selected the e-mail addresses I wanted to use. The
distribution list contained the correct addresses. But I got back two "could
not deliver" messages where the recipient address shown was NOT the one I had
selected in the distribution list. The address it said it couldn't deliver
to was the second one in my contact list (e-mail 2). In one case, it was
even a different ISP. How is this possible?

Hard to say without knowing your version and whether you are using
autocompletion.
Most likely you have a corrupt email address for that entry.

According to the About section of Outlook Help, I have Outlook 2002
(10.2627.2625). I don't think the addresses are corrupt. All addresses were
entered in the same way (copying from Excel). It appears to me that there is
an intentional search for secondary addresses in the contact list if the
first one in the distribution list does not work. That can be helpful, but
in this case it only led to confusion. I used the exact same distribution
list a couple of weeks ago and did not have this happen.

That doesn't sound very plausible to me. You are thinking that Outlook is
somehow searching and replacing just one or two addresses in your DL?
Are these addresses valid and resolved? Why not just remove the addresses
that do not work and replace them?

I tried to duplicate the problem by creating a set of contacts containing
both phony and real e-mail addresses in various combinations and then
creating a special distribution list containing them. In each case the
primary address was a phony one. But it came back rejecting the phony
addresses and without attempting to use any of the others, real or phony.
I've already deleted the bad real addresses from the contact lists and
replaced them with good ones. So I was simply trying to figure out why it
had happened in the first place. It's a mystery.

Not sure if I should post here, but I'm having somewhat of a similar problem
(but not exact).

I use Outlook 2000, and am having a problem with Outlook changing my
destination email to the contact's primary email addy. I have been trying to
send messages to some friend's personal email accounts, but they are listed
in Contacts as Email 2 or Email 3.

When I look at the Sent Items folder, I see where Outlook changed the email
addy to the contact's primary addy. I don't have Autocomplete on.

Any ideas?

None possible. You neglected to tell us how you are addressing the message.
We knew you didn't have autocompletion on because Outlook 2000 doesn't have
autocompletion.
Also relevant would be the mail support mode of Outlook 2000 you are using
and whether you are using autoresolution (Automatic Name checking).
