Multiple 2.5" IDE laptop hard drives on one IDE channel?

I'm currently in the process of building a system out of spare parts.
I'd like to use several laptop drives in this system, since I already
have them, they're small (in case size), and they're far more quiet
than the old desktop drives I have.

The problem I've run into is that the only IDE to laptop IDE adapters
I've found cost $10 or more and only work with one drive. What I was
hoping to find was a way to hook up two of these drives to a single
IDE port on my motherboard.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

Several places sell a kit, e.g.

http://www.mcsx.co.uk/shop/2_5_to_3_5_ide_adapter_kit.htm

"This adapter kit simply allows you to connect up a 2.5" laptop
hard drive to a standard 3.5" (desktop) IDE cable. The included
mounting brackets allow for the drive to be securely fixed in a
3.5" desktop drive bay where required." £8.23 (Inc. VAT)

And likely substantially slower too.

You just have one of those for each laptop drive,
one on each of the connectors on the ribbon cable.

They dont have to cost that much.

I have about 22 of these adaptors mentioned on this website that Rodspeed
mentioned: > http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD-108 ....
Haven't havd any REAL complaints about them......

Granted, now and again one will burn out, but I blame that on the burnt-out
and half-dead drives I attempt to spin up on these adaptors.....the price of
the adaptor is peanuts.....and if one burrns out, I just toss it and
pop-open another one.....theycome in little boxes like shrtened Office-pen
pairs!!....hehe.... The nicer ones obviously come with the little L.E.D.
light already on the unit, but those are more than easy enough to just add
and wire right into the adaptor unit....

I HAVE seen these laptop-to-desktop (2.5-3.5)adaptors at prices up into $20,
$25 each and even more BEFORE shipping!!....ROFLMAO....

SO, the price is hardly anywhere even near to the "ripoff" zone
