I guess I have lost my "multimedia audio controller"
because everytime my computer boots up, the hardware
install wizard asks if I want to install it. When I try to
use the wizard, it can't find the file. Without this
installation, I've been unable to open any of my audio
files. I tried looking for the file online, but I have
been unsuccessful in finding it. PLEASE HELP. I think I
may have accidentally deleted the file when I cleaned up my
hard drive. I don't want to utilize my last resort--the
system restore application.

May not be as bad as you think (even if you did have to do a restore).
How about this:
1. Click Start, select Settings, and choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Select the Device Manager tab.
4. In Device Manager, look near the bottom for "Sound, video and game
controllers" It might already stand out with an exclamation point, and a
yellow indicator.
5. Right-click on the item containing 'Audio Controller', and select Update
Driver.
6. Choose the Install the software automatically option. And follow the
prompts.
7. You may need to Reboot your system, when through. It should inform you
of that, if it needs to.

By the way, just in case you didn't know.... there are sort of 2
restores.... the automatic Restore points that Windows creates for you
(unless you disable the feature), and the manual "restore" where you sit and
re-install files from CD. As,I have no idea how much info you've got... I
should suggest that you check out System Restore, in START/Help and
Support... if you need to.

Please post back here, if you can't get it going again.

Good luck,
