Multimedia Audio Controller (W2K SP4)

I'm running Windows 2000 (SP4) from an original CD clean
install. I constantly get OS messages upon booting that a
new device has been found (the audio controller) but W2K
cannot find the drivers.

Device manager shows Multimedia Audio Controller
under "Other devices."

I have a Creative Live 5.1 sound card & after many
attempts I got it to work with the W2K driver download
from Creative. I have no Creative installation CD for
W2K. OOps! I had to reinstall W2K after my boot drive
failed. I'm back to SP4. I have installed & reinstalled
& uninstalled via Safe Mode but I cannot get my sound back.

FIRST THINGS FIRST!

1. Why are there no native Creative Live drivers on my
W2K installation CD? Are they not supposed to be there?
Where?

2. I have my BIOS set to disable the motherboard sound
(AMD Athlon 1700+). How do I satisfy W2K's constant demand
for the'Multimedia Audio Controller?'(I have searched the
Microsoft W2K Knowledge Base & found zilch.)

(Currently I have no Creative drivers installed - having
followed their knowledge base "Solution ID: 14834" to
completely uninstall 'SB Live!'from a Safe Mode boot.)

I'd greatly appreciate answers to the former two questions.

Thanks

This problem was finally resolved as follows:

1. I uninstalled all sound drivers in Safe Mode
2. I shut down & moved my sound card to another PCI slot
3. On next boot (1) I cancelled the Windows hardware wizard when I got the
'new hardware found' popup message.
4. I installed the Creative Lab driver file I had downloaded for W2K -
(selecting the 'drivers only' option)
5. I rebooted & W2K played its tune - indicating my soundcard had been
revived.
6. Device Manager did not show another questionable audio device controller
under an exclamation mark.

Conclusion: The W2K installation CD does not contain native drivers for the
Creative Live! series of sound cards. No additional Creative drivers have
been made available thru Windows Update through SP4.
