Multimedia Audio Controller Fails To Install

When using Add/New Hardware to install new audio driver if fails with: The
name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.
The device properties dialogue says: The drivers for this device are not
installed (Code 28).

I am unable to find a service "Multimedia Audio Controller" (assuming this
is the name it is complaining about!). The driver is the SiS 7012 Audio
Driver. Fault started after Windows Update tried to install C-Media AC97
Audio Driver (since deleyed).

How do I find the "Duplicate Service" or overcome the problem.

Add hardware is basically a big PITA, and should probably be extincted.

I'm assuming that your sound hardware is bundled on you mobo and it is
not listed in Device Manager.

Go into you BIOS and disable it, and boot into Windows. Then Reboot and
enable it, and boot into Windows. You shoulc then either get the
dialogue box to install the drivers, or it should be listed in your
Device Manager, then right click on it and install drivers from there.

And NEVER, EVER install drivers through Windows and/or Automatic Update
again! And get you drivers from your OEM, or from the Device
Manufacturer.
