I am having a problem with slow file access from our XP
clients to our W2K server. Below is the current network
config of our multihomed server:

NIC #1 (LAN)
IP 192.168.1.2
SM 255.255.255.0

NIC #2 (WAN)
IP 192.168.2.2
SM 255.255.255.0
GW 192.168.2.1 (DSL)
NetBIOS disabled

DHCP (LAN)
IP 192.168.1.x
SM 255.255.255.0
GW 192.168.1.1 (CABLE MODEM)

WINS disabled

Do I need WINS?
Do I need NetBIOS?
NIC driver problem?

Any help would be appreciative. Thanks!

Do you have DNS-server installed? Make sure all nics are pointing to this
DNS-server.
What do you mean with DHCP LAN? Is this a IPCONFIG/All from a workstation?
Shouldn't have the gateway in it.
Have you set the DHCP-options 006, 015 and 003?

Yes, DNS is 192.168.1.2 for both NIC's. DHCP is only
bound to NIC #1 (192.168.1.2). Current DHCP options are
003, 004, and 006. Do I need option 015? The clients do
need a GW since it is a different GW from the server. We
had to install DSL for outbound mail since our cable modem
had restrictions, although we didn't want to lose the
speed the clients had to the internet.

Control Panel, Network connections, Advanced, advanced or something like
this.
You only need WINS if you have W9x-, ME- or NT4-clients.
