I want to prepare multicasting test environment in Windows network.
The Network address is 192.168.0.0. at the moment.
I use PCanywhere host conferencing mode as a server.
In this case IP address must be 225.1.1.1 to 239.254.254.254.
Do I have to change all PC's IP address for this purpose?

No, multicast IP addresses can work in parallel with regular IP addresses. In
fact, the latter is necessary to identify it as a valid node on an IP subnet.

As long as the multicast aware application is configured correctly (with the
required multicast range), it should work as advertised.

Do let us know if this helps. Thanks!

I think I understand what you mean but the above is
wrong and thus confusing.

Multicasting works fine in parallel, that is separately
and at the same time, as unicast IP addresses.

The machine will have different (range) addresses for
each.
In
fact, the latter is necessary to identify it as a valid node on an IP subnet.

Three or four things have to work in general for
multicasting to operate:

1) Multicast server application SENDING source material
2) Multicast client application RECEIVING material
3) Multicast routers (IF any routers are present between)
4) A method to assign the multicast addresses to the clients

Clients can be assigned manually but it is also common to
use an URL linkage method or DHCP and the MADCAP
protocol to do that.

Thanks for your reply.
In case of pcAnywhere, there is a window where host address is specified.
But there is no where client address is specified.
How does a multicast client get his address?
Are there any way to inspect Multicast address?

If it is for Multicast the addressed used by the
source is the same one used by the clients.

Let me clarify, the source has to send on the
address the clients are using without necessarily
ever knowing the clients are out there (multicast
routers may separate and distribute to the bulk of
the stream destinations.)

Thanks for your reply.
I have understood.
I would like to know further about Multicast.
It would be very helpful for me to know URLs for the articles concerned.

I didn't mention any URLs, but have you tried
the built in help:

[ checklist multicast ]

Or searching something similar at Microsoft or pcAnywhere:

[ multicast site:microsoft.com ]

[ multicast pcAnywhere microsoft: ]

Let us know what you find.

Increasing my multicast knowledge would be
a good thing. <grin>
